Den Ostfriesen eilt der Ruf besonderer Originalität voraus. Sie gelten als stur, freiheitsliebend, erdverbunden und zu jeder Tageszeit sagen sie “Moin”. Regisseur Hans-Erich Viet, selber Ostfriese, erkundet die Eigenwilligkeit von Landschaft und Menschen: Auf seiner Reise durch das Land der Ostfriesen begegnet er u.a. einem schlürfenden Teemischer, einer kundigen Boßelgruppe, trifft auf einen siegreichen Bürgermeister und einen dichtenden Viehzüchter. Eine Reise in das Land der Deiche, wo die Sicht kilometerweit reicht, es sei denn Nebel oder der permanente Teerausch verhüllen den Blick. Eine Collage über ein Volk im Norden Deutschlands, das viele nur durch die Witze kennen.

In the land of the East Fresians. Observations by Hans-Erich Viet

The East Fresians are well known for their originality. They’re considered to be stubborn, freedom-loving and steadfast, and greet you with ”Moin” regardless of the time of day. The director of the film, Hans-Erich Viet, who is himself an East Fresian, portrays the uniqueness of the landscape and its inhabitants: on his travels through the land of the East Fresians he meets, among others, a slurping tea blender, a group of master tinkers, a triumphant major and a poet cattle breeder. A journey into the land of dykes, with horizons extending many kilometres, unless blurred by fog or permanent tea intoxication. A collage of the people of North Germany, known only to many on account of the jokes told about them.
